Microsoft released patches for this issue starting in March, 2014. Google released a patch for this issue starting in April, 2014. If you are using Google Chrome prior to version 66 or Microsoft Edge prior to version 17.0.9200.17003, you may see an error message when you try to load a website. This can be caused by the After Free vulnerability. This could result in unaccessible websites. To fix this problem, you will need to upgrade to a newer version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. If you are using an older version, apply the workaround listed below. To apply this workaround, you need to install Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a computer that does not have any other updates installed. Go to the website that is giving you the error message and follow these steps: Click on the icon in the far-right corner of the window. In the drop-down menu, choose Options. Click on the Settings tab in the about box. Click the Extensions tab. Select the “Disable all extensions” button. Click “OK”. That should fix the issue. After upgrading to a newer version of Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge, you should no longer see this error message. If you are still seeing the error message after upgrading, you will need to apply the workaround above.

To apply this workaround, you need to install Microsoft Edge on a computer that does not have any other updates installed and then follow these steps: Click on the icon in the far-right corner of the window. In the drop-down menu, choose Options. Click on Settings tab in the about box and click Extensions tab. Select the “Disable all extensions” button and click “OK”. That should fix the issue or install Google Chrome on a computer that does not have any other updates installed and then follow these steps: Click on the icon in the far-right corner of the window. In the drop-down menu, choose Options and click Settings tab in about box and click Extensions tab again but don't select anything just yet! Right now it's going to ask if it can modify your settings when prompted with "Allow" or "Not Allow" (click "Allow"). After updating your settings back to default so that no extensions can modify your settings anymore

To apply this workaround, you need to install Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer 11 on a computer that does not have any other updates installed. Go to the website that is giving you the error message and follow these steps: Click on the icon in the far-right corner of the window. In the drop-down menu, choose Options. Click on the Settings tab in the about box. Click on "Advanced settings". In advanced settings under "Allow sites with one of these restrictions", select "Only sites I trust" and click OK. That should fix it!
