System Profiler can also be used to check for updates and install them as needed. The software update history tab allows you to see when your device last updated, as well as what version was previously installed on the device. In an ideal world, we would all update our systems in a timely manner so there wouldn’t be any need for this tool, but flawed human nature prohibits us from doing so!
A few things to keep in mind:
- System Profiler cannot fix problems with your computer or hardware
- If a device is not listed in System Profiler, it means it has not updated recently
- If a device shows an outdated version number, you may need to update that device manually
