Bypass Xiaomi Mi 5 Android 5.1 Root Using Towelroot

If you are like most people, you won't need to be too worried about Xiaomi Mi 5's locked bootloader. It was originally released with a locked bootloader and some individuals might have been wary of installing custom ROMs on the device for fear of breaking their warranty. But as time has gone on, it appears that the lock is no longer there and Xiaomi has released an update to its flagship smartphone that removes the bootloader lock.
In case you don't want to wait for the official release of Android Marshmallow 6.0, however, there are still many ways to bypass Xiaomi Mi 5's locked bootloader and install custom ROMs without voiding your warranty. One way is by using Towelroot app from XDA Developers forum member ec095b9f (Xiaomi Mi 5). The app does not require root in order for it to work, so users can easily gain access to the device's system files with this application instead of having to do anything complicated or destructive like a factory reset.
Towelroot is available on Google Play Store and it should work with all variants of CyanogenMod 13 that were released prior to September 2016. Abstract:

Chinese smartphone brand Xiaomi announced the Mi5 smartphone this past December. The device is currently available for purchase and comes with a number of features that make it a great option for those who want a high-end phone but don't want to pay the exorbitant cost of other flagship devices. The device has an aluminum body with a 5.15-inch 1080p display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, dual-SIM card slot, and NFC capability. This device also comes with a secondary camera and fingerprint reader.

The Mi5 has a number of impressive features that make it worth the purchase in my opinion. But one feature that I think is important is its secondary camera with autofocus and video recording capabilities. I know some people might not be interested in these features but they are very useful to me. It's pretty helpful being able to take selfies or record videos when you're out or travel somewhere new or have friends over because you can set them on your phone so easily instead of having to carry around your digital camera too!

I've been testing the Mi5 for the past couple months now and have been very pleased with it!
